The trans code mode in STU can also be used to receive subtitling from live typing stations or teleprompters for news applications.
In order to cope with “live” subtitling and file playout subtitling for one channel Cavena has designed STU trans coder option. The base STU will play back subtitle files using time code to synchronise the subtitles. When there is a live program and the subtitlers (the writer) work directly on air then the same system is used to receive the data from the subtitlers workstation if it is typed using a stenographic keyboard or re-spoken. In STU the incoming data from this workstation is converted to subtitles and transmitted. The switch between the two operational modes is automatic and can be controlled by the playlist or by the translator logging in with his workstation.
