Audio description (AD) is a growing requirement for broadcasters, and serves the needs of visually-impaired people who still want to be able to watch and follow TV programming.
To address this, Cavena has developed a simple text-to-speech audio description package, which incorporates the flexibility and cost advantages of subtitling.
Using the proven Tempo workstation, operators create the timecoded text files. Tools within Tempo allow the length of the text to be measured, to ensure that there is no conflict with the spoken programme dialogue.
Using Cavena's proven file handling and transmission products, the text is sent under timecode control to a voice synthesiser package. This converts the text to a spoken voice.
Once created, the AD track can be mixed into the live audio, sent as a separate audio track or encoded for other distribution formats.
There are several important advantages to handling audio description in this way;
The Cavena system can easily be set up for a wide range of languages, with accents to suit the nature of the content.
The key to the Cavena AD system is simplicity and flexibility, along with a reduction in AD origination costs.
