Cavena has strengthen the R&D department
Mr Thomas Sundblom with background in advanced programming for the telecom industry has been hired to strengthen the R&D department. Knowing there is a great demand on the market for new and enhanced subtitle products Thomas will be an important part of this job.
Canal+ and CanalSat install OP-47 link
When moving to an HD-SDI only link between playout and distribution, Canal+ has chosen the new OP-47 modules in Cavena's Subtitle Transmission Unit, STU, to carry subtitles from the playout to the distribution centre. Subtitle are encoded at playout to OP-47 and inserted into VANC in the HD-SDI signal. At the receiving end, the data is extracted and transcoded to DVB and teletext subtitles. The modular upgrades to the STUs allows Canal+ and CanalSat to continue building on their existing systems and implement a very cost efficient upgrade path to HD-SDI.
Cavena appoints new CTO
Mr. Magnus Lindhe joins Cavena as new Chief Technology Officer on the 7:th of January 2009. He previously held the position as Broadband Systems Manager at Telenor Broadcast, responsible for IPTV platforms for the Canal Digital group. Prior to that, Magnus was responsible for the technical solution of one of the first IPTV networks in Sweden, when Canal Digital launched its IPTV-services in 2004.
Mr. Lindhe also has vast experience as management consultant, focusing on the TV and Media segments. During the late 90s Magnus held various positions at the Teracom R&D department, and participated in the launch of the digital terrestrial network in Sweden. As a Teracom representative, Magnus for several years contributed and participated in establishing international standards in DVB, Digitag and Nordig. Magnus holds a masters degree in electrical engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and started his career as a trainee at Ericsson telecom in 1989.
